Medical leave

What is a medical leave?

Medical leave is the temporary release of an employee from work duties due to deteriorating health. This right is protected by labor law and allows employees to recover without losing their jobs.

In order to process sickness absence, you must provide your employer with a sick leave certificate, which confirms that the employee is temporarily unable to do their job. In some companies, this process is automated with the help of HRM systems, where employees can apply for sick leave, upload required documents and track the status of payments.

In many countries the employer is obliged to compensate for the period of sickness, but the amount of payments depends on the length of service of the employee, internal company rules and legislation.

In addition to standard sick leave, many companies provide for sick days - paid days of short-term sickness absence without the need for medical certificates. This is useful in cases of minor illness when there is no need to see a doctor but rest is required.

The very possibility of such absence is important both for the health of the employee and to prevent the spread of infections among the team. Companies often provide additional support for sick employees by offering health insurance programs and telecommuting for minor ailments.

It is important that employees report their illness on time and provide the necessary documentation to avoid misunderstandings and loss of income.
